Occupied El Aaiun, April 16, 2026 (SPS) – The Association for the Protection of Sahrawi Prisoners in Moroccan prisons extended its warmest congratulations and sincere feelings of pride and dignity to the Sahrawi civilian prisoner Abdelmoula Mohamed El-Hafed on the occasion of his release today Thursday from the Moroccan occupation prisons.
The Association pointed out that the release of the Sahrawi civilian prisoner, who spent many years in Moroccan occupation prisons, represents a turning point marking the end of the harshest phases of arbitrary detention, during which he was subjected to severe forms of torture and ill-treatment, solely for his peaceful activism and his defense of the legitimate rights of the Sahrawi people to freedom and independence, as well as his opposition to the Moroccan occupation.
The Association added that Abdelmoula Mohamed El-Hafed, who was arbitrarily arrested under an unjust ruling that sentenced him to 10 years in prison following a trial held in the Moroccan city of Marrakesh in 2018, was an example of steadfastness and sacrifice. The trial lacked the most basic standards of justice, and despite the presence of international observers, it remained a testament to the repression exercised by the Moroccan occupation against anyone advocating for the Sahrawi people’s right to self-determination.
The Association affirmed that imprisonment and torture will only strengthen the determination of Sahrawi prisoners to continue their struggle until full liberation.
