The draw conceded against Kawkab Marrakech (0-0), during the 16th day of the Botola Pro D1leaves a bitter taste to the Wydadis. At the heart of the controversy: a goal refused in the first period after intervention by the VARfor a offside deemed “non-existent” by the club. In an official statement, the Wydad did not mince his words, expressing “his deep astonishment and his total rejection of the arbitration decision unjust consisting of nullifying a legitimate aim”.
“After a careful examination carried out by the club’s technical committee, it became clear that the goal was valid and that the player was not in an offside position, but was in a legal position at the time of scoring, which makes the cancellation decision unjustified,” underlines the Casablanca club.
Beyond the contentious action, it is the very use of video technology that is being singled out. THE Wydad considers that “the intervention of VAR in this specific case was not correct” and that it “led to an erroneous decision which directly affected the match result“.
For the club’s leaders, “the repetition of such errors is unacceptable and undermines the principle of equal opportunities and the integrity of the competition.”
Faced with this situation, the Wydad officially seized the National Professional Football League (LNFP)calling for the opening of an urgent investigation in order to “determine responsibilities and clarify the circumstances of this decision”, while calling for “a methodological review of the use of VAR in order to guarantee arbitration justice”.
