The National Assembly (AN) will hold its ordinary session this Tuesday, starting at 3:00 in the afternoon, with the designation of the Preliminary Commission of the Judicial Nominations Committee as one of the central points of its agenda.
This step begins the formal process for the eventual selection of judges of the Supreme Court of Justice (TSJ), in accordance with article 270 of the Constitution and article 65 of the Organic Law of the TSJ.
The Preliminary Commission evaluates and preselects the candidates who make up the lists for the Judicial Nominations Committee, a key body in the formation of the highest court.

The Judicial Nominations Committee prepares the lists of candidates that the AN considers for the appointment of magistrates. This activity generates attention in the political and legal spheres, in the midst of debates about the renewal of the Judicial Branch. Sources indicate that at least 12 of the 20 judges could retire in the coming months, which opens the possibility of significant changes in the TSJ.
Delcy Rodríguez recently announced a “great national consultation for the new justice” with the aim of reforming the judicial system, building a more humane model and advancing alternative mechanisms to deprivation of liberty. This announcement is directly linked to the process of appointing judges.
