Participants in the LGBT march, which took place on June 21 in Chisinau, reported the need to respect the rights of the LGBT community. Some came to the rally with friends and relatives, others spoke about the right to family, equality before the law and acceptance by society.
“I want people to respect the rights of everyone. So that there are no boundaries for creating a family,” said the march participant.
Another participant emphasized that she came to support the LGBT community and advocate for equal rights.
“We want to be allowed to love, to allow same-sex marriage, to allow families to adopt children, and to be accepted by our relatives,” she shared.
Another participant said that she came to the march with her family and friends.
“I would like them, like me, to be able to legally marry. There is currently no law that would protect such couples in critical situations. For example, if one partner is hospitalized, the other partner does not legally have the right to make decisions related to his health. This is a very serious problem,” she emphasized.
Another woman said that she was participating in the action for the sake of her child.
“I want my child to be accepted just like all other children. Not only mine, but all children who can decide for themselves what to be and who to love. I would like the authorities to clearly and forever write in the law: all people are equal,” she noted.
Another participant said that she came to the march with her husband and daughter.
“Very often, representatives of the Christian community say that another sexual orientation is a sin. But loving is natural and normal, and hating people just because they are different from you is a great sin,” she believes.
Another participant said that he participates in LGBT marches every year.
“We want to show that we exist and are no different from other people. As far as the law is concerned, we ask for only one thing – equal rights and protection. So that my partner and I could get married, share property, visit each other in the hospital and do all the things that normal families do,” he said.
Another woman added that she had symbolically married her partner the day before.
“For now, this is the only way we can do it. The main thing for me today is to demand the right to a family,” she clarified.
Other participants admitted that it is difficult to expect quick changes.
“I don’t think that at the official level in the country much will change immediately. But change starts with us,” said the march participant.
Another woman told the story of her friend who was recently admitted to the hospital. According to her, his partner could not receive information about his health status for a week, since he was not legally considered a close relative.
The march participants explained that it is precisely situations like these that show the need for changes in legislation and ensuring equal rights for all citizens.
