“Algeria strongly condemns and denounces the targeting of the Holy City of Mecca in the sisterly Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, with an enemy drone. It considers it an extremely dangerous act of aggression against the sanctities of Muslims.”
This came in a statement issued by the Algerian Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Wednesday evening, after Saudi Arabia announced that its air forces were able to repel an attempt to target the “holy capital” with a drone launched by the Yemeni Houthi group.
The Algerian Foreign Ministry statement said: “In the face of these despicable attacks, Algeria once again stresses its full support for the sisterly Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, in protecting the holy sites of Muslims and all of the Kingdom’s lands.”
“It reaffirms its support for all measures it deems appropriate to ensure its security and stability, and to preserve its national sovereignty,” he added. Statement. He called for “an immediate cessation of these attacks and all forms of escalation and provocation in the region.”
