Al-Sarraj (Western district of Tripoli) Social Council has called on shop owners, market vendors, pharmacies, and all commercial establishments to clarify any arrangements or programmes related to providing services to refugee card holders within the area.
In a statement, the council indicated that several pharmacies and shop owners had contacted it regarding communications they received from the UNHCR concerning arrangements to provide medications and services to some refugee card holders within the area.
It added that this step has raised many questions and concerns among citizens, especially given the challenges facing the health sector and the difficulties Libyan citizens face in accessing certain services and medications.
The council stressed the need for any programmes or arrangements implemented within the area to be officially and transparently clarified, in a manner that considers the interests of the residents and maintains public order.
It called on all pharmacies and shop owners to exercise caution and refrain from engaging in any arrangements or programmes that might encourage illegal residency or exacerbate the burdens and problems already plaguing the area, until official clarifications are issued by the relevant authorities.
The council stressed that any violations or irregularities observed will be reported to the relevant official authorities for investigation and appropriate legal action.
