    The inflation rate in household consumption during April 2026 reached 5.5 percent, compared to 5.6 percent during April 2025, according to indicators issued Tuesday by the National Institute of Statistics. It is noteworthy that the inflation rate in household consumption was estimated at 4.8 percent during January 2026, before stabilizing at 5 percent during the months of February and March 2026.

    The inflation rate is explained, on the one hand, by the increase in the rate of development of the prices of the food group (8.2 percent during the month of April 2026 compared to 6.8 percent in the month of March 2026) and the prices of the group of clothing and shoes (9.3 percent in the month of April 2026 compared to 7.5 percent in the month of March 2026), and on the other hand by the decline in the rate of development of the prices of the group of transportation services (2.2 percent in the month of April 2026 compared to 2.8 percent during March 2026).

    The National Institute of Statistics reported in its bulletin related to the “Household Consumption Price Index, April 2026,” that taking into account the annual slide, food prices increased by 8.2 percent, as a result of the increase in the prices of fresh grains, by 19.2 percent, the prices of poultry, by 16.1 percent, the prices of lamb, by 16.1 percent, the prices of fresh vegetables, by 13.5 percent, and the prices of beef, by 12 percent. percent, and fresh fish prices, by 11.9 percent. In contrast, the prices of edible oils fell by 6.8 percent, and the prices of eggs fell by 4.4 percent.

    Manufactured materials and services

    The prices of manufactured materials for the month of April 2026 witnessed an increase of 4.7 percent, taking into account the annual slide, in light of the development of the prices of clothing and shoes, by 9.3 percent, and the prices of cleaning materials, by 4.8 percent.

    In the same context, the prices of services increased by 4.2 percent, mainly due to the increase in the prices of motel services, by 14.6 percent.

    Implicit inflation for April 2026, that is, inflation excluding energy and nutrition, rose to 4.8 percent after it was around 4.6 percent in March.

    The prices of free food items witnessed an increase of 6.8 percent, compared to 1 percent for framed foodstuffs, knowing that the annual slippage rate for free food items amounted to 9.3 percent compared to 0.2 percent for packaged foodstuffs.

    Consumer prices increased by 1.1 percent in April 2026 compared to March

    The consumer price index witnessed an increase during the month of April 2026, by 1.1 percent, compared to March 2026. This increase is due to the increase recorded in the prices of the food group, by 1.4 percent, and the prices of the clothing and shoes group, by 5.9 percent.

    The prices of the nutrition and beverages group increased by 1.4 percent during the month of April 2026, due to the increase in the prices of fresh vegetables, by 5.6 percent, the prices of lamb, by 3.5 percent, and the prices of fresh grains, by 2.5 percent. In contrast, egg prices fell by 4.5 percent.

    The prices of clothing and shoes increased by 5.9 percent, as a result of the end of the seasonal winter sales period, as the prices of clothing increased by 5.9 percent, the prices of shoes by 6.8 percent, and the prices of clothing accessories by 1.4 percent.
