A record heat wave causes power outages to 68,000 families in France
A record heat wave in France caused a power outage to about 68,000 families in the south of the Finistère region, following a malfunction in one of the transformers of the electricity transmission network as a result of the high temperatures.
Local authorities reported that the malfunction occurred yesterday evening near the city of Quimper, confirming that no injuries were recorded as a result of the accident, while emergency teams and electricity companies continue their work to gradually restore power to the affected areas.
French Energy Minister Maude Bregon affirmed the government’s support for the affected population, stressing that the priority is to help the most needy groups and accelerate the process of restoring electrical service.
France has been experiencing a severe heat wave for days, amid warnings of the repercussions of rising temperatures on infrastructure and the energy sector, in light of the growing challenges related to climate change.
