he police have named four security guards of state-run palm oil plantation firm PT Agrinas Palma Nusantara, including one active and one retired Indonesian Army officer, for torturing villagers leading to one death, triggering other villagers to attack the plantation office in North Labuhan Batu, North Sumatra.
Labuhan Batu Police chief Adj. Sr. Comr. Wahyu Endrajaya said the active Army officer, Sgt. Maj. BDL has been handed over to the Military Police Sub-Detachment (Subdenpom) I/1-2 Rantauprapat to be processed accordingly.
Three other suspects, identified as BD, IFK and KHM, are being detained at Labuhan Batu Police headquarters for further processing. The three are security guards at Agrinas Palma.
“Suspect BD allegedly took part in torturing the victim to death while suspects KMH and IFK allegedly carried out violent actions together,” Wahyu told a press conference at the Labuhan Batu Police multifunction hall on Saturday.
BD is retired army personnel with the last rank of sergeant major while KMH and IFK are civilians.
Wahyu said the suspects were charged with Article 358 (1) with subsidiary charge Article 466 (3) of the 2023 Criminal Code (KUHP) on torture leading to death, as well as Article 262 (2) of KUHP on joint violent acts.
Adj. Comr. M. Jihad Fajar Balman, chief detective at Labuhan Batu Police, said the torture led to the death of victim Luis David Hutabarat.
