A varied and auspicious program will be offered in Reykjavík on National Day.
On the City of Reykjavík’s website the festival program is reported, but there will be a parade from Hallgrímskirkja, the scouts will have playground equipment, VÆB and Páll Óskar will sing the song.
There will be an entertainment program in Hjómskálagarð and Klambratún, where there will be a dance party, circus, food trucks, antique car show and music.
A ceremony organized by Alþingi and the Prime Minister’s Office begins at Austurvelli at 11:00, where Prime Minister Kristrún Frostadóttir lays a wreath from the Icelandic people at Jón Sigurðsson’s memorial and the President of Iceland, Mrs. Halla Tómasdóttir, delivers a celebratory speech.
The mountain woman delivers a speech, but her identity is always a secret until the ceremony. After the ceremony, a parade goes from Austurvelli to the cemetery at Suðurgatu, where Björg Magnúsdóttir, president of the city council, lays a wreath from Reykvíking on the path of president Jón Sigurðsson and his wife Ingibjargar Einarsdóttir. The workers’ brass band plays during the ceremony.
