Due to the recovery in imports of vehicles less than 3 years old during the first half of 2026:
102.7 One billion dinars in insurance market turnover in 180 days, with a growth of 3 percent annually
The number of declared accidents increased by 10.3 percent despite the decline in their financial value
The results of the National Insurance Council for the first semester of the year 2026 revealed that the turnover of the insurance market exceeded 102.7 billion dinars, compared to an increase in compensation paid in damage insurance to 36.4 billion dinars, and an accumulation of files awaiting settlement with a value of approximately 127 billion dinars. The automotive branch recorded a remarkable recovery, with a turnover of 44.75 billion dinars, with the number of new contracts rising to 4 million 173 thousand and 664 contracts, an increase of 228 thousand and 20 contracts, driven by the resumption of importing vehicles that are less than three years old.
The results, which Al-Shorouk reviewed, confirmed that a total turnover exceeded 102.7 billion dinars, compared to 99.7 billion dinars during the same period in 2025, a growth of 3 percent according to the total numbers of the results, at a time when the number of contracts increased to more than 7.7 million contracts. The data showed the continued dominance of damage insurance in the market, with a share of approximately 80 percent of production, in contrast to the escalating pressures related to compensation and files awaiting settlement, the value of which exceeded 126 billion dinars in damage insurance alone, and the turnover of damage insurance reached 81.77 billion dinars, compared to 80.45 billion dinars during the corresponding period, an increase of 1.6 percent, while personal insurance recorded 13.13 billion dinars, an increase of 5.8 percent. The production of international acceptances for reinsurance also increased by 9.4 percent to 6.73 billion dinars, while Takaful contributions amounted to 876.8 million dinars, distributed between general takaful with 508.5 million dinars and family takaful with 368.2 million dinars.
Cars account for 54.8 percent of damage insurance production
The automotive branch recorded a turnover of 44.75 billion dinars until June 30, 2026, compared to 39.86 billion dinars during the same period last year, an increase of 12.4 percent, or approximately 4.9 billion additional dinars. Its share of damage insurance production rose to 54.8 percent, compared to 49.5 percent previously.
The growth extended to the number of contracts, which increased from 3 million 945 thousand and 644 contracts to 4 million 173 thousand and 664 contracts, an increase of 228 thousand and 20 contracts, or 5.8 percent. According to the results, the Mandatory Risks Branch led this development, after representing 70.8 percent of automobile production, recording a growth of 13.4 percent, bringing its turnover to 35.7 billion dinars. Premiums resulting from the all-risk guarantee also increased by 16.2 percent, generating 2.4 billion dinars in additional premiums, while non-mandatory risks achieved an increase of 732.9 million dinars, or 6.7 percent.
The outcome attributed this performance to the growth of new contracts with private individuals, the resumption of importing vehicles less than three years old, the expansion of the distribution network and the opening of new agencies, as well as new deals and contract renewals in the field of fleets and the development of long-term leasing. Improving some guarantees also contributed to raising the value of individual premiums.
Statements decline financially and rise numerically
The value of accidents declared in damage insurance amounted to 42.99 billion dinars, compared to 46.46 billion dinars during the first semester of 2025, a decrease of 7.4 percent. On the other hand, the number of files increased from 640,486 to 698,105 files, an increase of 57,619 files, or 9 percent.
The amount of declarations in the fire and miscellaneous risks branch decreased by 29.3 percent, or about 3.3 billion dinars, due to the absence of major industrial accidents and the failure to renew an important contract. The value of declarations related to cars also decreased by 4.2 percent, from about 32.5 billion dinars to 31.2 billion dinars. In contrast, declarations in loan insurance increased by 121.6 percent, following a major accident in the export loan, and agricultural insurance also recorded an increase of 391.6 million dinars.
The compensation paid rises to 36.4 billion dinars
Compensations paid in damage insurance increased to 36.4 billion dinars, a growth of 22.5 percent, i.e. an increase of approximately 7.2 billion dinars compared to the same period last year. The automobile branch accounted for about 64 percent of these compensations, recording an increase of 3.2 billion dinars, or 14.8 percent. The outcome attributed this to the processing of accident files through the electronic appeals platform, the high cost of some warranties and spare parts, and the increase in the number of settled files.
The number of files settled in damage insurance reached 442,997 files, an increase of 16,491 files, or 3.5 percent, to which the Automotive Branch contributed an additional 13,918 files. The value of the accident inventory to be paid in damage insurance amounted to 126.98 billion dinars at the end of June 2026, compared to 123.26 billion dinars at the end of 2025, an increase of 3. percent, or about 3.72 billion dinars. The number of files also increased from 1,424,91 to 1,499,212 files, an increase of 75,121 files, or 5.3 percent.
The automotive branch accounted for the largest share of these files, as their number increased from 1,370,400 files to 1,439,578 files, an increase of 69,178 files, or 5 percent. As for its financial value, it jumped from 43.85 billion dinars to 50.18 billion dinars, an increase of 14.4 percent, or an additional 6.32 billion dinars, to constitute 39.5 percent of the total accident stock in damage insurance.
Despite the increase in compensation paid, the inflation in inventory reflects the continuing challenges associated with processing and settling files, especially in the automotive branch, which combines the largest volume of contracts and the highest share of compensation and files awaiting payment. The accident settlement rate in damage insurance, calculated on the basis of amounts, reached 23.7 percent, compared to 19.7 percent during the same period last year. The Automotive Branch recorded a settlement rate of 33.6 percent based on amounts, compared to 27.9 percent previously, while the rate calculated based on the number of files reached 21 percent, compared to 20.7 percent.
Despite this improvement, the value and size of the accumulated files remain an indicator of continued pressure on insurance companies, which makes accelerating processing and settlement of compensation one of the most prominent challenges facing the sector.
