In the city of Tursunzoda on May 3, during a thunderstorm, a lightning strike led to the death of one person, and two more were injured. The victims were hospitalized, the Committee for Emergency Situations of Tajikistan reports.
According to the CoES, heavy rainfall caused mudflows in several regions of the country. As a result of the disaster, residential buildings were flooded, roads and agricultural land were damaged.
The most serious consequences were recorded in the regions and cities of Yavan, Devashtich, Penjikent, Asht, Spitamen, Varzob, Tursunzade and Khujand.

In the Yavansky district, mudflows flooded 14 household plots and three residential buildings, and also damaged outbuildings. Masses of mud filled the canals, causing water to spill into the streets.
In the Devashtich area, four residential buildings, roads and commercial facilities were damaged. In Penjikent, farmland and roads were damaged, and the Aini-Penjikent highway was partially destroyed.
In the Asht district, roads and basements were flooded, and in the Spitamen district, damage to agricultural land and infrastructure was recorded. In the Varzob region, mudflows damaged residential buildings and road surfaces.
In addition, a boat carrying seven schoolchildren and a teacher capsized on the Syrdarya River in Khujand. Thanks to the prompt actions of rescuers, everyone on board was rescued in a timely manner, the CoES notes.

Earlier it was reported that on the night of May 2, a devastating flood occurred in Kulyab, as a result, three people died.
In the city on Saturday evening, under the chairmanship of Prime Minister Kohir Rasulzoda, a meeting of the Republican Headquarters was held with the participation of responsible departments.
The Prime Minister instructed speed up disaster relief effortsas well as strengthen preventive work in high-risk areas, including projects to strengthen banks and protective infrastructure.
Currently, power supply has been fully restored in the disaster-affected areas of Kulyab. According to energy services, power lines and low-voltage substations were damaged as a result of flooding and mudflows that occurred on the night of May 2. On behalf of the President of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon, energy services were promptly involved for restoration work.
Specialists worked around the clock, using all available technical resources. As a result, the damaged lines were repaired and put into operation. Currently, the population and infrastructure are provided with a stable power supply.
