The convict systematically abused the son of his roommate

The court sentenced a man who beat to death the eight-month-old son of his roommate to life imprisonment. The boy died as a result of a brain injury.
This was reported in Kirovohrad Oblast prosecutor’s officeas well as the general prosecutor Ruslan Kravchenko.
According to him, the stepfather systematically abused the baby: he beat, threw, put out cigarette butts against his skin, and also overturned the cart with the child.
“One day, in a state of alcohol intoxication, he hit the baby’s head against the wall several times. The boy died on the same day. The examination confirmed that this was not a one-time violence, but a long-term torture. Experts recorded numerous burns, hematomas, and sores on the child’s body.” Kravchenko noted.
For a long time, the accused did not admit his guilt and tried to shift the responsibility to the child’s mother. In November 2025, the court of first instance appointed he is sentenced to 15 years in prison.
Prosecutors filed an appeal, considering the sentence too lenient for such a crime. The appellate court instead sentenced him to life imprisonment.
“Justice is not about emotions. It is about the principle – anyone who raises a hand against a child should know that the state’s response will be as harsh as possible. A life sentence is the maximum measure provided by law. But even it is not capable of restoring justice in the full sense.” – noted the Prosecutor General.
Previously, in Dnipropetrovsk region, the stepmother died beat his 10-year-old stepdaughter. The woman was angry that the child allegedly took her cosmetics.
