Workers, university professors, retirees and pensioners gathered this Wednesday in front of the headquarters of the Supreme Court of Justice (TSJ) in Caracas to demand an immediate response to the protection introduced on February 2 against the omission of the salary adjustment.
The Association of Professors of the Central University of Venezuela (Apucv) and various union centers called the activity starting at 10:00 am. The protesters demanded compliance with article 91 of the Constitution, which establishes the minimum wage as sufficient to cover the needs of a family and allow their participation in cultural, social and recreational life.
José Gregorio Afonso, president of the Apucv and other members of the UCV led the rally. The participants recalled that the Constitutional Chamber of the TSJ had five business days to rule on the appeal and that more than two months passed without a decision.

“It has been four years without a salary increase,” the speakers denounced. Representatives of the concentration delivered a document to the headquarters of the TSJ in which they reiterated the demand for a decent wage and rejected “hot towels” for May 1.
Voices were also added to demand the freedom of political prisoners and an end to the repression against labor protests. Provea, a human rights defense organization, documented the activity through its networks and highlighted the persistence of claims by workers, retirees and pensioners in the face of the silence of the highest court.
Until the closing of this note, the protesters remained outside the TSJ and expressed their willingness to continue actions, including the possibility of a national university strike on April 22. The protest took place peacefully.
