The conflict between MMA stars Kyla Harrison and Ronda Rousey has escalated again, after the American champion harshly responded to the name-calling of her rival.
Harrison said that their ambitions are completely different, stressing that she is “chasing greatness”, while Rousey, as she claims, focuses on profit and spectacle.
Their conflict has been going on for a long time, and it flared up further ahead of Rouzi’s return to martial arts.
The former UFC champion is soon scheduled to fight Gina Carano in a match billed as a major media event.
Harisonova criticized that duel, evaluating it as a move motivated by money, not sporting significance.
According to her, such matches do not have the same weight as fights that decide the title and legacy in the MMA world.
Adding weight to the conflict is the fact that the two martial arts stars were once connected through judo, where both achieved significant success.
Today, however, they stand on opposite sides, with increasingly harsh rhetoric and mutual accusations.
Kajla believes that the criticism coming from Rouzi stems from rivalry and the fight for the status of the best fighter, while part of the public believes that it is also a question of generational conflict within women’s MMA.
Meanwhile, Harrison is focusing on potential career-defining bouts, including a possible bout with Amanda Nunez.
On the other hand, the return of Rosa after a long break is already attracting a lot of attention, but also divided reactions from experts and fans.
While it’s unlikely these two hard-hitting fighters will find themselves in the same Octagon anytime soon, their verbal sparring is further raising interest in women’s MMA.
The difference in approach, sporting heritage on the one hand and commercial success on the other, makes this conflict one of the most interesting in contemporary combat sports.
