If you have little time to read about the supposed ultimatum, we summarize it for you:
- The disinformation chain uses terms such as “ultimatum” and “lunge” to generate chaos, lacking precise sources or dates.
- The network was promoted by profiles such as “Nación Rebelde TV”, known for using AI and previously disseminating false data.
- Miguelangel Suárez’s real statements date from January 12, 2026, they are not a recent event.
- It spread anonymously on WhatsApp and social networks under the typical structure of a misinforming hoax.
Expectations about the transition in Venezuela bring with them the spread of a lot of misinformation on social networks, about alleged statements by politicians, student leaders and other key figures. The opacity with which this path has been marked, which began on January 3, 2026, contributes to the confusion and proliferation of false information, making it difficult for citizens to discern the truth about the progress and challenges of the process.
A viral chain circulates through various social networks stating that student leaders from the Central University of Venezuela (UCV) gave an ultimatum and attacked Delcy and Jorge Rodríguez with a “direct attack” that “made Miraflores tremble” (government palace in Venezuela).
The chain, which is titled: “The UCV breaks the silence in front of the Rodríguez brothers,” reached our chatbot La Tía del WhatsAppused to counteract the effects of misinformation and which is also in Telegramon at least two occasions; Users asked if this supposed ultimatum was true, which was attributed directly to the president of the Federation of University Centers of the UCV (FCU-UCV), Miguelangel Suárez, where he listed three demands to the interim government: transition, disarmament of armed groups and release of political prisoners, and although on occasions political, social, student and other citizen organizations have made this type of requests, the viral chain is false, because Suárez did not recently send a single ultimatum to the interim power.
This check is the result of rigorous adherence to our verification methodology, after analysis and contrast with the available evidence and does not represent opinions or value judgments, as established in our Neutrality and Nonpartisanship Policyin which we warn of the limitations to the exercise of journalism in Venezuela.
The misinformation
The disinformation chain was shared through the WhatsApp instant messaging network but has also been distributed on different social networks such as x, Facebook and instagramaccording to a search performed on Google.
The chain that circulates through various social networks has essential characteristics of hoaxes: alarmist, presented as urgent and anonymous, although in this case they name the president of the FCU, it does not clarify what day the alleged ultimatum was issued, nor do they indicate the media through which the alleged statements were issued.
“THE ULTIMATE THAT SHAKES THE POWER!* *The UCV breaks the silence in front of the Rodríguez Brothers.* Enough of the games! The Central University of Venezuela not only speaks, today it sentences. In an act of unprecedented courage, the student movement has launched a direct thrust at the heart of the de facto Power in Venezuela.”says the misinformation.
The network claims that Miguel Suárez stood in front of the cameras to send a viral message to the interim authorities that shook the Miraflores offices in Caracas. “There were no lukewarm words, there were demands for freedom,” he says. «_ They have only one historical responsibility: *lead this country to a democratic transition and disarm the irregular groups that prey on the people*_», the hoax continues.
Among the requests identified in the network as “three incendiary truths that the UCV put on the table” are: “* *Immediate Freedom*: _The waiting time is over for the families who sleep in front of the prisons. We demand political prisoners in the streets NOW!_ * *Total Disarmament*: _It is time to take power away from the collectives and groups that terrorize the people_. * *Transition or History*: _After 25 years of sinking the Republic, the message to the Rodríguez Brothers is clear: *either allow democracy, or history will judge them as those responsible for the national ruin*_.” it is read.
To finish the hoax, it adds the invitation to share the content, a characteristic detail of misleading or false information. “_*You know VERY WELL that MADURO will NEVER return* *SPREAD THE WORD!* _Do not allow them to censor this message. The students are standing up for you, for your family and for the freedom of Venezuela”, concludes.
What Miguelangel Suárez said (and the student movement)
Although it is true that the Federation of Student Centers of the Central University of Venezuela has made requests to the Rodríguez government on various occasions (such as here, here and here) in this chain that we verified are presented in a sensationalist tone and out of context.
On January 12, 2026, within the framework of a statement made by the student movement, Suárez did make a statement, as the president of the FCU informed Cocuyo Chequea through a telephone contact on April 14, 2026.
“We did say the three truths, which has to do with the immediate freedom of political prisoners, the disarmament of the groups and the transition, but that was declared on January 12, 2026, not recently or as an ultimatum,” said the student representative, as you can see in this videopublished that day on the student leader’s Instagram account.
Similarly, his latest speaking video was published in his profile on April 9, in relation to the release of all political prisoners, from the outskirts of El Helicoide.

The other accounts of La Nación Rebelde
In TikTokwhere it also has a presence and at least 32 thousand followers, also spread disinformative content such as thiswhere they point out that Delcy Rodríguez has been “struck by Donald Trump”, a situation that is not evident with the normalization of relations between the US government and the interim government of Venezuela, where Trump himself has praised the management of Rodriguez (as here and here).
While on the YouTube video platform, this disinformative channel accumulates more than 12 thousand subscribers and also shares disinforming content such as thisin which he assures that the CIA revealed a plan by the Chavista deputy and former prison minister Iris Varela along with other deputies who would be hatching a plan against the government of Delcy Rodríguez, citing journalist Homero Boscán.
This misinformation was denied by our colleagues at Cotejo while we have also denied Boscán from Cocuyo Chequea for the false eviction of Chinese companies from El Guri and the uncheckable health crisis by Tarek El Aissami.
This misinformer has a presence on the social network Instagram where they accumulate 1,192 followers and republish the videos they share on other social networks.
The Cocuyo Chequea team had previously verified this disinforming account when it spread false information about the alleged freezing of the bank account of the president of the National Assembly, Jorge Rodríguez, in Panama, as detailed in the link.
Less influential accounts also shared
Other accounts with much less influence also shared the chain, such as @elmundodelaviolawho spread the post on January 14, 2026 and only got 6 likes.

In X, the count of @JPOMBOPAKwhich has a little more than 5 thousand followers, also published the misinforming chain on April 26, 2026, but it did not have any interaction, as you can see here.
What has the student movement done after the fall of Maduro
Since January 8, 2026, the student movement was reactivated after the arrest of Nicolás Maduro and his wife Cilia Flores on January 3, 2026, by US authorities. On January 8, a group of students headed outside El Helicoide in Caracas, to support the families of political prisoners who approached the surroundings of the detention center, after the announcements made by the president of the National Assembly Jorge Rodríguez, of the “massive” release of those deprived of liberty for political reasons. From there the student representatives demanded that the Chavista government release all those detained.
On February 3, 2026, the movement returned to the streets with calls for mobilizations, the first after the post-electoral repression following the presidential elections of July 28, 2024. This mobilization demanded the creation of an amnesty law that will benefit all those deprived of liberty for political reasons.
On February 12, 2026, Youth Day in Venezuela, students They called for a mobilization called the “March of the Generation that conquered fear”, where thousands of students marched around the UCV in Caracas and in cities like Maracaibo to demand the freedom of political prisoners and the approval of the amnesty law.
On March 25, 2026, UCV students carried out their fourth protest of the year together with unions, claiming that the political transition has not resolved the economic precariousness of universities. While on April 9, 2026, a massive mobilization that tried to reach the Miraflores Palace. Students and workers demanded transparency about the use of State resources and there were clashes with the PNB in the center of Caracas.
Conclusion
By applying our verification methodology we can point out that it is false that the UCV students have given an ultimatum to the interim authorities, as stated in a chain that circulates on social networks and messaging services. Although the president of the FCU-UCV, Miguelangel Suárez, made requests about the transition, the disarmament of civil groups and the release of political prisoners, these statements originally occurred on January 5, 2026 and not under an “ultimatum” tone or with the incendiary rhetoric used by the hoax.
Although the student movement remains active in the streets demanding demands, there is no record of a recent sentence or direct threat against the Rodríguez brothers in the terms described by the viral narrative.
