(KPL) Mr. Sonexay Siphandone met on April 9 with Tran Cam Tu, Standing Member of the Secretariat of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam, during his official visit to Laos.
The Lao prime minister welcomed the visit and said it reflects the strong and enduring relationship between Laos and Vietnam. He described the ties between the two countries as unique, long-standing, and built on deep mutual trust.
Tran Cam Tu’s trip marks his first overseas mission since taking up his new position. The visit also comes as Laos prepares to celebrate the Lao New Year.
During the meeting, Sonexay extended congratulations to Le Minh Hung on his appointment as prime minister of Vietnam. He also expressed gratitude for Vietnam’s continued support and cooperation with Laos over the years.
Both sides discussed their domestic developments and noted recent political milestones, including the successful national congresses of their respective ruling parties and the formation of new legislative bodies in both countries.
The leaders reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening bilateral relations, which have been elevated to a strategic partnership. They said cooperation in politics, national defense, and security continues to serve as a foundation of the relationship.
They also reviewed progress on major joint projects, including the development of Vung Ang Port, the Lao-Vietnam Friendship Park, and a friendship hospital in Houaphanh Province.
Both sides agreed to advance key infrastructure projects aimed at improving regional connectivity. These include a railway linking Vientiane to Vung Ang, an expressway connecting Vientiane and Hanoi, and a 500-kilovolt power transmission line between the two countries.
Looking ahead, Laos and Vietnam plan to mark the Year of Friendship and Solidarity in 2027. The event will commemorate the 65th anniversary of diplomatic relations and the 50th anniversary of the signing of their Treaty of Amity and Cooperation.
Tran Cam Tu thanked the Lao government for its warm reception and reaffirmed Vietnam’s commitment to strengthening cooperation for the mutual benefit of both nations.
