The Nokor Sankranta celebration will take place in Phnom Penh to showcase Cambodia’s rich cultural heritage through religious ceremonies, traditional games, food, and other cultural activities.
The celebration will kick off on April 14 and run until April 19, reflecting national identity, unity, economic resilience, and solidarity with frontline personnel and displaced communities.
The event is jointly organised by the Phnom Penh Capital Administration and the Union of Youth Federations of Cambodia (UYFC) to promote national culture and attract tourists, thereby contributing to economic growth.
Festivities will take place at major venues across the capital, including the Wat Phnom Historical Site, Chaktomuk Walk Street, Vattanac Capital, the Night Market, Wat Botum Park, Bassac Lane, and Tuol Tompoung Market.
Sok Sabayna, a member of the UYFC Standing Committee, said yesterday that the event celebrates the holiday in a spirit of unity and solidarity.
“The Nokor Sankranta celebration strengthens national identity through religious ceremonies, traditional games, and other cultural activities,” he said.
He added that the event forms part of the Khmer New Year celebrations, offering programmes to entertain the public and showcase Cambodia’s rich cultural traditions.
Visitors will be able to take part in traditional ceremonies, such as the welcoming of the New Year angel and monk parades, as well as enjoy cultural performances and traditional games.
The UYFC and the Phnom Penh Capital Administration have encouraged people from all walks of life to join the festivities at the designated venues.
In addition to cultural activities, the event will feature initiatives that promote national solidarity, including charity booths supporting frontline soldiers and border communities.
UYFC has also set up donation sites to assist border guards and displaced people, according to Sabayna.
These initiatives are intended to honour the sacrifices of frontline personnel who continue their duties while citizens across the country celebrate the New Year with their families. AKP
