A ostrich six-month-old male escaped from his home last Tuesday, April 7. The animal moved down a three-lane highway in Thailand’s coastal province of Chonburi. The event occurred while cars and trucks passed at high speed near the specimen.
Motorist Chairat Sompong published a video of the fact on their social networks. He was driving right behind the animal. In the recording, Sompong asked the bird’s owners to pick it up because of the speed with which it ran along the road.
Sompong told the AFP news agency that he encountered a traffic jam while returning home. The driver observed the bird in the center lane of the road. According to his testimony, the ostrich seemed scared and panicked.
Sompong tried to get the animal to move to the left lane of the highway. Finally, the bird stopped running in that sector. Adult ostriches reach speeds of up to 70 kilometers per hour.
The animal’s owner, Itsara Boriboon, identified the bird with the name B1. The specimen ended up locked up about 15 kilometers from its original pen. The venue is located in an animal-themed cafeteria in the city of Pattaya.
Boriboon told AFP he was concerned about the possibility of the ostrich suffering an accident. The trader bought B1 and a female named B2 five months ago for a price of $460.
Cafeteria employees told Boriboon that the noise of a truck carrying construction materials scared the animal. This event caused B1 to flee from his corral. The owner confirmed that none of his ostriches escaped before this incident.
