Choosing a university career continues to be one of the main concerns of young people in Ecuador, especially due to the need to access employment and better income levels.
For example, Stephanie Molina, 17, wants to study Medicine. At the moment she is starting that path in a nursing course in Guayaquil.
“I feel like this race is about putting your heart into it; if you don’t like it, you’re screwed because it’s complicated, but for me it’s worth it. I want to get a job in a hospital,” says the young woman.
According to the Ministry of Labor, from January to March, 215,663 contracts have been registered in the country, of which 50.25% are people between 18 and 29 years old; and 49.70%, older than that last age.
The SEK International University (Uisek), the International University of La Rioja (UNIR), the University of the Americas (UDLA) and the International University of Ecuador (UIDE) carried out a evaluation of the highest paying careers in the country. And for this they considered some parameters.
For example, Uisek relied on specialized publications and observatories that indicate clear trendssays vice-rector Esteban Andrade Rodas.
David Vera Alcívar, dean of the UIDE Business School, states that the Better remunerations are concentrated in profiles with specialization and experience.
“Technology professionals, medical specialists, senior engineers and managers tend to be among the highest paid, although income depends greatly on the sector, career and ability to adapt,” he comments.
While for UNIR there are factors to consider, such as personal interests, vocation and work and economic expectations.
“Nowadays, companies require highly trained, flexible professionals capable of adapting to changes. In addition to good training, there is an increasing need for professionals who know how to work as a team, who are creative, who have initiative and who are proactive. That is why it is important to have employees willing to learn and accept new challenges,” argues the institution.
The UDLA and the other universities agree in the top positions of the best paid careerssuch as Medicine, Electronics and Automation and Information Technologies.

Martha Carrión, manager of UNIR’s Employment Area, explains that the salaries placed in the ranking They arise from an analysis of the ranges in the market for each profile.
“When a career is in high demand and many professionals from the same sector enter the market, the supply of personnel is very wide and this devalues the profiles. If I have 100 profiles marketing to choose from to hire, I can afford to pay little because there will always be someone who wants to work. It is not a 100% ethical practice, but it is the reality of the market,” he says.
And he adds that, on the other hand, the profiles that are scarce exist, not because there is no demand, but because of the demands of the study: “Doctors and engineers are almost at auction because the demand is very high and companies know that the salary is what can make a professional decide to work there.”
1. Medicine and Surgery
The degree in Medicine and Surgery is one of the most prestigious and best paid in Ecuador. It has a standard duration of six years.

2. Chemical Engineering

3. Mechanical Engineering
