Vacherot made history in Monte Carlo by reaching the semifinals and will face Alcaraz after eliminating De Miñaur.
The Monegasque Valentin Vacherot made history and became the first player from the Principality to reach the semifinals of the Monte Carlo Masters 1000, after winning in three sets against the Australian Alex de Miñaur, fifth seed, (6-4, 3-6 and 6-3) and will be the rival of the current champion and world number one, the Spanish Carlos Alcaraz.
Never until now have the feisty Monaco player and the Murcian player met. Vacherot, 27 years old and 23rd in the ATP ranking, took a leap in his career and triggered his impact at the Shanghai Masters 1000 last year, where unexpectedly, from the previous phase, he won the title.
The first player to reach his first semifinals on the ATP circuit in two Masters 1000 events took two hours and 25 minutes to beat the sixth player in the world. Now he challenges Alcaraz who previously defeated the Kazakh Alexander Bublik.
Local hero Valentín Vacherot already made history on Thursday after coming back from a set down to defeat Poland’s Hubert Hurkacz and becoming the first Monegasque to reach the quarterfinals of the tournament. It was his second victory against a top 10 this week after eliminating last year’s finalist, the Italian Lorenzo Musetti in the second round and He will be among the top twenty in the world ranking.
