The Democratic Unitary Platform (PUD) This Sunday, April 12, he presented his roadmap to achieve political change in Venezuela. The coalition maintains that the country will only achieve a transition viable democracy if it establishes a process of solid political negotiation.
For the opposition bloc, this mechanism represents the fundamental tool to reach agreements that facilitate a peaceful and democratic solution to the current crisis.
Roberto Enríquez, executive secretary of the PUD, highlighted the organization’s change of focus. “We put the people as the center, as a priority. The Venezuelan people. And we understood that we had to stop debating so much among ourselves and put our ear to the heart of the Venezuelan people.”
Strategy on two fronts
The proposal of the Platform combines social pressure with high-level diplomacy. Enríquez specified that the strategy will unite coordinated citizen expression, both inside and outside the country, with a political negotiation oriented to restore constitutional order. This process seeks to generate guarantees for the different actors and allow the institutional reconstruction of the nation.
“The democratic transition will require a clear strategy that combines coordinated citizen expression (…) with political negotiation aimed at generating the necessary conditions for free elections,” said the leader.
The PUD plan aims for a definitive electoral outcome. The coalition pursue full restitution of popular sovereignty through free elections at all levels of the State. This process would allow Venezuelans elect their legitimate authorities and democratically renew public powers, thus closing the cycle of institutional crisis that the country is going through.
