Senator Carlos Núñez Agüero (ANR, dissident) launched harsh accusations in the Senate when he described Interior Minister Enrique Riera as “useless” and denounced alleged acts of corruption in the Zero Hunger program. He also asked President Santiago Peña to assume political control and asked the Comptroller’s Office to audit governorates, starting with Guairá.
The senator Carlos Núñez Agüero (ANR, dissident) -retired commissioner- was blunt in his last intervention in the Senate when referring to the head of the Ministry of the Interior.
“The president would have removed the useless minister, Enrique Rierawhich does nothing for security,” he stated.
Núñez Agüero maintained that the political secretary did not respond to the demands of the police sector or to the legislative debates, questioning his absence at key moments, such as the treatment of the reform project of the Fiscal Fund.

He again accused the Minister of the Interior of occupying the position for other purposes: “It’s there to raise money, fill your pockets“. He even suggested that Riera should resign “for the love of the safety of the citizens.”
Criticism of President Santiago Peña
The senator also targeted the head of state, Santiago Peña, questioning his management and lack of decisions regarding security. “I am not going to speak badly, much less well, of the president.”
He also criticized presidential trips and the lack of control over sensitive public policies such as Peña’s star program, “Zero Hunger” in schools.
One of the hardest points of the speech was the denunciation of the Zero Hunger social program. According to Núñez Agüero “They are disgustingly robbing the poor children… the governors are lining their pockets”.

The senator assured that there would be overbilling and improper use of resources destined for school feeding, which he described as “shameful.”
Audit request: focus on Guairá
Given these complaints, the legislator requested the intervention of the Comptroller General of the Republic, in charge of Camilo Benitez.
He asked to start audits in governorates, starting with the department of Guairá, administered by Cesar Sosa (ANR, HC). “That he is going to do an audit, starting with Guairá”, he expressed.
The legislator urged a change of course in the Government and questioned the permanence of “several useless ministers.”
