Police returned the woman arrested in connection with the death of businessman Steve Ghany Jr to his residence in San Fernando on Friday, where he was killed two days earlier, as investigations into the case continued.
Senior homicide investigators, along with the suspect, returned to the bedroom and other parts of the residence on Alexander Road, Sumadh Gardens, Vistabella, where the fatal shooting occurred.
Investigators are pursuing efforts to reconstruct the events leading up to the fatal shooting, as the suspect remains in custody.
A post-mortem examination has since confirmed that Ghany died as a result of gunshot wounds, consistent with initial findings outlined in a police report.
Officers found two firearms, 11 spent shells, and Ghany’s bloody body in a bedroom of his residence.
Police are expected to take the completed case file to the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) for consultation on whether charges are to be laid against the woman.
The 45-year-old mother of two allegedly told officers that the incident unfolded over several hours and involved accusations, heated arguments, and physical confrontations, ultimately culminating in a fatal exchange of gunfire at the family’s mansion.
The woman was photographed and both of her hands were swabbed for gunshot residue by the Southern Division crime scene investigator.
Her clothing—a pair of long blue jeans and a multicoloured plaid shirt—was also taken as evidence by the police.
According to a police report, the police E-999 emergency line was contacted around 9.08 a.m. on Wednesday, and the woman reported that she shot and killed Ghany in self-defence at their home on Alexander Road.
She told police that the confrontation began around 2.30 a.m. when Ghany returned home, and after arguments about infidelity accusations broke out, she was physically assaulted.
She alleged that the physical assault and arguments continued throughout the early hours of the morning, until around 8.30 a.m., when Ghany drew his licensed firearm and began firing shots in her direction.
The shots missed her, and she alleged that in self-defence, she grabbed one of Ghany’s licensed firearms and fired several shots that hit him.
He fell, and she contacted the police, and officers arrived on the scene minutes later.
Police found Ghany in a bedroom on the western side of the upper floor of their two-storey residence. He was on the floor in a slouched position, motionless and unresponsive, in a pool of blood with gunshot wounds.
A Glock 19 pistol with a magazine and nine rounds of 9mm ammunition, a Sig Sauer pistol with a magazine and three rounds of 9mm ammunition, and 11 spent shells were seized by the police from the scene.
