Daily report: Drama in planes at Kangerlussuaq and power cut in Nanortalik

The Greenland Police have had a busy day with both unrest at home and traffic accidents. But power cuts and unusual reports from planes have also caused busyness.

Kangerlussuaq has formed the setting for an unusually busy afternoon on Tuesday 31 March.

Head of duty at the Greenland Police, Karsten Højrup Kristensen, informs Sermitsiaq that a message from a plane from Poland has meant that the police have been busy for some time.

    – We had a tourist plane that reported a wish to land in Kangerlussuaq yesterday, as they had a passenger who had fallen ill and required medical treatment. The plane, which had 300 passengers on board, was from Poland and was on its way to Toronto, says Karsten Højrup Kristensen.

However, the plane did not manage to land in Kangerlussuaq as the crew had found a doctor among those on board who could help the sick passenger.

    Major power outage in Nanortalik

In Nanortalik too, the police are still busy and are extra visible in the cityscape.

A large part of the city of Nanortalik is still without power, while the entire city is without connection to both telephony and the Internet.

    – The reason for this is that the storm in the south has caused a power cut in Nanortalik for several hours. The power was cut off at 02:30 on Wednesday night. Work is being done to solve the problem, says the warden.

On Tusass’s website it appears that there will be the next status on the situation at 1 p.m.

Smooth lead first to traffic accidents

In Nuuk, several road users have probably already seen a car that has driven the wrong way in Nuuk’s Nuussuaq district.

A motorist drove into a snowdrift on Wednesday night.

    – This is a rental car where the driver has driven into a snowdrift, probably due to slippery roads. The accident happened at the T-junction in the road Qarsaalik, where the car was driven at an unknown speed. The driver was able to leave the scene of the accident himself, and there are others involved in the accident, says Karsten Højrup Kristensen.

In addition to the incidents mentioned, the police have been to several situations with disturbances in the home.
