The Luxembourg Socialist Workers’ Party (LSAP) has approved the candidacy of Paulette Lenert to become a member of the Council of State.
The candidacy must be submitted to the Chamber of Deputies within the next two weeks, where a vote will be held to determine the successor to Yves Wagner, who resigned from the Council of State after six years.
The vote for Lenert is expected to be a formality. If approved, this would also pave the way for Ben Streff to succeed Lenert as an MP in the Chamber of Deputies.
Meanwhile, Lenert’s career – which has included positions as judge, minister, and MP – could take another turn in the near future. According to online media platform Reporter, Lenert has been asked to take over coordination of the Luxembourg pavilion at the World Expo 2030 in Riyadh.
Speaking to RTL, Lenert said she is considering the offer at present but has not yet made a definitive decision.
If she accepts, Lenert would follow in the footsteps of DP politician Maggy Nagel, who after resigning as housing and culture minister in 2015 took over coordination for the World Expo 2020 in Dubai.
Other former ministers who served as general commissioners coordinating world expositions include Jean Hamilius for Expo 1992 in Seville, as well as LSAP politicians Johny Lahure and Robert Goebbels in 2000 and 2010, respectively.
