The national government launched a project that mobilizes US$ 10,000,000 of the Adaptation Fund for the adaptation to climate change in coastal areaslike some beaches in Montevideo, Canelones, Maldonado, San José, Colonia and Rocha.
He REACC Costas project will be executed between 2026 and 2030, and seeks to “increase the adaptation capacity of the population and resilience of coastal ecosystems against risks such as floods and erosionassociated with sea level rise already extreme events most frequent”, according to the Development Bank of Latin America and the Caribbean (CAF), which participates as accredited entity before the Adaptation Fund.
While the National Development Corporation (CND) leads the operational implementation and the Ministry of Environment technical leadership. This portfolio reported that “in this first stage, each municipality will be able to access up to US$800,000 for the development of actions, studies and priority definitions in its coastal section”, in coordination with this ministry.

The initiative will benefit more than 520,000 peopleaccording to the international entity. The beaches to intervene have already been defined.
- Rocha: La Aguada, Punta del Diablo and Los Botes–La Serena.
- Maldonado: Piriápolis, Playa Verde and Playa Hermosa.
- Canelones: Atlántida and the mouth of the Solís Chico stream.
- Montevideo: Cerro beach and Carrasco beach.
- San José: Kiyú and Penino beach.
- Colony: Colonia del Sacramento and Juan Lacaze.
At the beginning of this monthwith a workshop carried out by the CAFnext to Ministry of Environment and the CND They started the project, which had been advanced by Search. In these instances, Environment indicated that it is happening “from diagnosis to implementation”.
