Madrid (Spain), May 6, 2026 (SPS) – Spanish writers and analysts have confirmed that the developments in the Western Sahara file reflect the consolidation of the political and legal presence of the Sahrawi Republic within African institutions, in contrast to the increasing isolation of the Moroccan occupation and the continued attempts to circumvent the process of decolonization through misleading political discourse and formal paths, at a time when the right of the Sahrawi people to self-determination remains valid and inalienable according to international references.
In this context, writer and journalist Victoria Garcia Correira highlighted, in an article entitled “Western Sahara: The African Parliament is a setback for Morocco,” that the special session of the African Parliament in Midrand (South Africa), which was held from April 28 to 30, constituted an indication of the transformations taking place within the continental space, as the Sahrawi Republic strengthened its presence within the institutional structures in exchange for a clear setback to the Moroccan occupation.
The Spanish journalist cited the voting results related to this session, considering that a Sahrawi candidate won the position of interim rapporteur of the office, ahead of the Moroccan candidate, “a result that reflects the magnitude of the change in the distorted and misleading balances of influence within African institutions.”
Correira added that the results of this session, which resulted in the well-deserved election of representatives to various positions, represent “an important political setback for Rabat within the North African region.”
“Far from simply counting votes, she said, this development reveals that the strategies adopted by the Makhzen regime on the African scene are broken and devoid of effectiveness. They clash with the solid international legal reality that confirms that the Western Sahara issue is a path of decolonization that cannot be circumvented.”
In parallel, the Spanish writer Carlos C. Garcia, in his analysis under the title “Developments in Western Sahara” published on the “Sahrawi Observatory” platform, clearly highlighted the international legal dimension of the Sahrawi issue, as the UN references confirm that Western Sahara is a non-self-governing territory and that the path of decolonization is based primarily on enabling the Sahrawi people to exercise their right to self-determination, far from any guardianship or imposition of a fait accompli.
For her part, writer Barbara Waantner confirmed, in a post on her official account on social media, that the Sahrawis know a lot about the world, even though the world does not know much about them, in reference to the depth of the Sahrawi experience and the clarity of its historical and humanitarian presence, in contrast to the weakness of international awareness of the details of their case despite its just nature and its connection to the path of decolonization.
The writer added that the attempts of the Makhzen regime to present a ready-made narrative about the issue of Western Sahara remain faltering and incoherent because they are based on deception, as they constantly collide with established historical and legal data and fail to impose an alternative reading of the reality of a region that is still included in the issues of decolonization, which confirms the continued international demand for the right of the Sahrawi people to self-determination.
These data intersect with the fact that the issue of Western Sahara is still an ongoing issue of decolonization and that attempts to obscure its truth or reformulate it outside the framework of international legitimacy remain powerless in the face of the clarity of the Sahrawi right to self-determination and the stability of its presence.
