KUCHING (May 6): Development in Batu Kawa will not slow down despite the township’s significant progress, said Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Dr Sim Kui Hian.
The Batu Kawah assemblyman said substantial allocations had already been channelled towards improving public facilities and connectivity, but further transformation is expected over the next five years.
“Batu Kawa continues to grow. During my first term here, the state government has spent about RM300 million on infrastructures.
“This is my second term here, and we have spent about RM900 million on infrastructures,” he said during the opening of Affin Bank Pines Square branch here.
He said the next phases of development would strengthen the education sector in Batu Kawa.
“Not only public schools and secondary schools, but a new St Joseph’s Private School is also set to be established in the area and is about to begin construction,” he said.
He also highlighted the state government’s financial assistance initiatives.
“Apart from infrastructure development, Sarawakians aged 18 and above also receive financial assistance from the state government, such as the Sarawak Basic Needs Assistance (SKAS) ranging from RM375 to RM1,100.
“Meanwhile, senior citizens aged 60 and above with a monthly income of less than RM5,000 are also provided with RM600,” he said.
