Two men with the surnames Boza and Hernández will fulfill six months of preventive detention as suspected of participating in a triple homicide that occurred in Guararí de Heredia on June 10, 2025.
The measure was ordered by the Criminal Court at the request of the local Deputy Prosecutor’s Office, which is investigating them for the deaths of Joseth Talavera, Xander Reyes and Yader Dávila.
According to the investigation, the victims were attacked with bullets while they were traveling in a vehicle through La Lucía.
The attackers, who were on foot, would have ambushed them and shot them at least 36 times, causing their death on the spot, as confirmed by the deputy prosecutor of Heredia, Tatiana Chaves.
Drug control dispute
According to the authorities, the crime would be linked to a struggle between criminal groups for territorial control for the sale of drugs in the area.
A judicial source indicated that Hernández would be the “visible face” of the criminal structure in that sector and one of the most violent members of the group, with important control over drug sales.

Others involved
Other suspects also appear in the case:
- A man named Chávez, who was already in preventive detention for another case, but is now also being investigated for this triple homicide.
- A subject named Lezcano, also under preventive detention.
- A minor person, who faces a process in the Juvenile Criminal Prosecutor’s Office and has already been sentenced for these events.
“According to the evidence collected so far, the adult defendants and the young man would have shot at the offended parties, causing their death at the scene,” the Prosecutor’s Office indicated.
Raids and seizures
Boza and Hernández were arrested on Tuesday, April 7, after five raids led by the Prosecutor’s Office and the Judicial Investigation Agency (OIJ).
During the proceedings, the following were seized:
- Cell phones
- ¢300,000 in cash, allegedly the product of drug sales
- Marijuana ready for sale
- A pistol and a revolver
The case continues under investigation under file 25-004846-0059-PE, in which the crime of drug trafficking is also being investigated.
