Minister of Culture Logi Einarsson has allocated pieces from the Collection Fund for the year 2026 to
received the opinion of the museum council. The Museum Council’s awarding ceremony took place in the Picture Gallery of the National Museum of Iceland earlier this month, and there Arna Kristín Einarsdóttir, head of the office for culture and creative industries in the Ministry of Culture, Innovation and Higher Education, gave an account of this year’s awarding.
A total of 131 grants were awarded from the museum fund in the amount of a total of 182,700,000 ISK, according to an announcement from the Museum Council.
“There were 123 one-year grants totaling ISK 154,700,000 to 51 beneficiaries.
The 2026-2028 excellence grants to recognized museums were eight and are divided as follows:
- 28,000,000 ISK by the year 2026,
- 29,000,000 ISK by the year 2027
- 16,000,000 ISK by the year 2028
The total amount of Öndvegis grants 2026 for all grant years 2026-2028 is then ISK 73,000,000. Allocations for the years 2027 and 2028 are granted subject to funding of the fund. There were 10 older Öndvegi allocations with an allocation for 2026, and the grant amount is ISK 41,900,000.
