The national minority group is divided over the fate of the Liberal-led government Ilia Bolojan. It appears that the 17 MPs have different options when it comes to supporting a possible no-confidence motion.

The group led by Varujan Pambuccianwhich traditionally supports power, is currently divided between supporting Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan or a PSDclaim political sources for truth. Out of the 17 minority MPs, a camp of 9-10 MPs would support the social democrats’ actions. Given that the vote for the censure motion will be very close, the group of national minorities could be decisive.

“The situation is more tense than ever within the group. There are voices saying that we should not get involved in the war PSD-Bolojan, but most of them want us to vote on the motion, with the argument that this coalition, of which we are also a part, will remain in government anyway”, claims one of the deputies of the national minorities for Adevărul.

The government crisis started after PSD decided to withdraw support for Ilie Bolojan.

Marian Neacșu and Petrișor Peiu announced on Monday, April 27, 2026, at the Parliament Palace, the initiation of a censure motion against Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan.

The two conveyed that the document will be drafted jointly and that it relies on sufficient parliamentary support for the adoption of the motion.

“We are jointly writing a censure motion, we hope it will pass. We have a plan,” said Marian Neacșu.

He stated that he is following consultations with Nicușor Dan, in order to identify a political solution after the eventual vote in Parliament.

“Consultations will take place with the Romanian president and we will find a solution,” the former said deputy.
