The President of the United States, Donald Trump, confirms to American media that peace negotiations will take place soon.
Delegations from the United States and Iran arrive in Pakistan on Friday to hold peace talks.
The Prime Minister of Pakistan, Shehbaz Sharif, announced this on Wednesday, writes the Reuters news agency.
The President of the United States, Donald Trump, also confirms to the media New York Post that peace negotiations in Pakistan will take place “very soon”.
According to two unnamed sources, the US delegation will be led by US Vice President JD Vance, while the Iranian delegation will be led by Iran’s Parliament Speaker, Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf, and Iran’s Foreign Minister, Abbas Araqchi, writes Reuters.
However, Trump says to the New York Post that JD Vance may not attend due to security concerns.
According to Reuters’ sources, the delegations will already arrive on Thursday.
Earlier, the message from the Prime Minister on the night of Wednesday was that Sharif had invited the two countries to Friday’s peace talks.
Shehbaz Sharif wrote this in a post on the social media X.
– Delegations from both countries are invited to Islamabad on Friday, April 10, 2026 for further negotiations on a final agreement that can resolve all differences, Sharif wrote.
With the latest statement from the Pakistani Prime Minister, it seems that the countries have accepted the invitation.
Pakistan is a neighbor of Iran and on good terms with both Iran and the United States. It was also with Pakistan as mediator that a two-week ceasefire was announced by the US and Iran. Since then, Israel also said that the country had joined it.
Pakistan has a 900 kilometer long border with Iran. The two countries have deep historical, cultural and religious links. Pakistan also houses the world’s second largest Shia Muslim population after Iran.
– Pakistan has strong credentials as the only country in the region that has good relations with both the US and Iran, Asif Durrani, who is the former Pakistani ambassador to Iran, told AFP.
