Spokesman Ted Goodman explained that Giuliani suffers from a chronic respiratory disease that developed after the attacks of September 11, 2001. This has complicated his current illness.
A few days before the hospitalization, Giuliani appeared on his online show, where he said that his voice had weakened. He coughed visibly during the broadcast.
Political support
President Donald Trump called him a “true fighter” and expressed support on social media.
Former New York City Mayor Eric Adams also wished him a speedy recovery, stressing that “this moment is above politics.”
A long career and recent problems
Giuliani rose to prominence for his role after the 2001 attacks, earning him the nickname “America’s Mayor.”
In recent years, however, he has faced a number of legal and financial problems related to his actions after the 2020 US election. In 2024, he was disbarred from practicing law in New York.
However, he remains a close ally of Donald Trump, who appointed him to an advisory board to the Department of Homeland Security.
Giuliani has had other health issues in recent years, including hospitalization after a car accident and treatment for COVID-19.
