Ulaanbaatar, April 20, 2026 /MONTSAME/. On April 16, 2026, the United Nations Resident Coordinator, Mr. Jaap van Hierden, along with members of the United Nations Country Team, visited the Korea Visa Application Center (KVAC) in Ulaanbaatar, operated by the International Organization for Migration (IOM) in Mongolia. The delegation was greeted by Dr. Yoko Fujimura, Chief of Mission of IOM Mongolia.
Established in 2020 at the request of the Republic of Korea’s Ministry of Justice (MOJ), KVAC plays a key role in facilitating growing mobility between Mongolia and the Republic of Korea (RoK). According to MOJ statistics, more than 176,100 Mongolian nationals visited the RoK in 2025.
During the visit, KVAC Team Leader Mr. Insuk Jung provided an overview of KVAC’s operations, noting that the KVAC processes between 500 and 600 visa applications daily and has supported nearly 600,000 applicants since its establishment. Visa applications in Mongolia are accepted exclusively through KVAC and 13 authorized agencies, helping to prevent fraud, reduce average waiting times, and ensure transparent and applicant-friendly procedures. All visa decisions, however, remain under the authority of the Embassy of the Republic of Korea.
The visit provided a practical overview of how the United Nations supports secure, transparent, and efficient visa services, contributing to safe, orderly, and regular migration in line with the Sustainable Development Goals, particularly SDG target 10.7.
