At a solemn banquet held at the White House, King Charles presented a special gift to President Trump – a bell from the submarine “HMS Trump”. This vessel, launched in 1944, was actively involved in operations in the Pacific Ocean during World War II. According to the BBC, the monarch stressed that the gift represents a link between the common past and the “bright future” that the two countries share. Buckingham Palace announced that this act was reminiscent of Queen Elizabeth’s gesture in 1976, symbolizing an unbreakable union.
In addition to the bell, the British king presented the president with a framed reproduction of a design from 1879. It is the design of the famous “Resolute” presidential desk, which is located in the Oval Office, and is made of wood from the British ship of the same name.
President Trump responded to the monarch by presenting him with a copy of a historic letter from 1785. The letter was written by John Adams, the first American ambassador in London, to then-Secretary of State John Jay. In it, Adams describes in detail the warm welcome he received from King George III at St James’s Palace.
Queen Camilla presented Melania with a unique brooch by British artist Fiona Rae, whose jewelery combines traditional craftsmanship with modern digital technology.
On the other hand, Melania Trump presented the British Queen with a set of six silver spoons from the prestigious house of Tiffany, made in the style of “King Sterling”. Along with this luxurious gift, Camilla also received something completely natural – a jar of honey collected from a new beehive that was recently installed on the White House property.
