Designer Lana Puljić, designer and fashion stylist Saša Joka, and editor-in-chief of all Gloria editions Vedrana Čarapović Propadalo comment on the fashion story of the film “The Devil Wears Prada 2” in the new episode of the Gloria podcast and recall the best editions of the first sequel from 2006.
The arrival of the sequel to the cult film The devil wears Prada to domestic cinemas has been one of the main topics in fashion and film circles for weeks, and the excitement was further ignited by the glamorous world premiere that preceded it and brought together some of the biggest names in the film industry. It’s the continuation of a story that marked an entire generation, so with that in mind, we decided to invite fashion experts – designers and stylists Sasha Joko and designer Lana Puljićwho stands behind the Lokomotiva brand, which is the editor-in-chief of all Gloria’s publications To Vedran Čarapović It failed commented on its aesthetics and influence, but also remembered how the premiere of the first film looked like twenty years ago and compared it with today’s.
“Previously, stars appeared in safe combinations, it was classic glamor in which the emphasis was on brands, and today just going out on the red carpet conveys a deeper message and they are a little more playful,” Vedrana Čarapović told Propadalo.
Saša Joka however, he believes that the style has not changed much compared to the last twenty years. “Everyone still chooses safe variants of evening dresses, maybe a formal suit. There are games with the tuxedo, but I must admit that I don’t see much originality and I think that there is a lack of more daring looks,” says the designer and adds that it can be seen that this year, compared to the premiere of the first installment of the film, it was approached much more seriously. “Exact care is taken as to who will be in which color and each outfit matches the role in the film. Many are already commenting that the red carpet will defeat the film,” Joka points out.
Lana added that the marketing part was done brilliantly, that everything has its own story and meaning. “We know why all those outfits are there, because where better to present a fashion collection than at the premiere of a fashion film? I think today’s red carpet, compared to the one in 2006, is much more glamorous, on a bigger level, the whole story is complete for me,” she added.
As for the outfit from the film, the Dior corset and long skirt are the most memorable Emily Bluntand at the world premiere Meryl Streep wowed her in a Givenchy red coat and black gloves. Saši, on the other hand, praised several of Meryl Streep’s outfits, but considering that the first film disappointed him in terms of fashion, his expectations are minimal this time as well. “I normally have a problem with the styling of American films and series, especially when the topic is fashion, but of course, that’s just my attitude,” said Joka and praised Meryl Streep, whom he says does not leave the role of Miranda Priestly even at premieres. “She should get an Oscar for the red carpet editions of the sequel to The Devil Wears Prada. Everything was done excellently, but Meryl Streep is the absolute winner,” concludes Joka.
