KUCHING (April 30): Workers are the backbone of Sarawak’s development and must continue to be accorded due recognition, protection and appreciation, said Yang di-Pertua Negeri Tun Pehin Sri Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar.
In his Labour Day message, Wan Junaidi said every worker, whether in the public or private sector, plays a vital and meaningful role in driving the state’s progress and safeguarding the wellbeing of its people.
“Without the dedication and commitment of workers across all sectors, the aspirations for a progressive and prosperous Sarawak would not be realised,” he said.
Wan Junaidi said this year’s Labour Day theme, “Pekerja Kesuma Bangsa” (Workers Are the Nation’s Pride), along with Sarawak’s theme, “Pekerjaan Cemerlang, Sarawak Maju Makmur” (Excellent Service, A Progressive and Prosperous Sarawak), reflect the central role of workers as the driving force of development.
He stressed that the welfare, safety and overall wellbeing of workers must remain a priority to ensure development that is not only rapid, but also sustainable and balanced.
At the same time, he called on employees, employers and the government to further strengthen a professional work culture anchored on integrity, discipline and teamwork.
He expressed confidence that strong cooperation among all parties would enable Sarawak to remain competitive and respected on the international stage.
