More than 500 Taiwanese bursaries were distributed to students across St Vincent and the Grenadines during a presentation ceremony held on Tuesday, April 28, 2026, at the Villa Campus of the St Vincent and the Grenadines Community College (SVGCC).The initiative, which targeted students at the primary, secondary and tertiary levels on the mainland, was hosted by the Ministry of Education, Vocational Training, Innovation, Digital Transformation and Information in collaboration with the Embassy of the Republic of China (Taiwan).
Addressing the ceremony Ambassador of Taiwan to St Vincent and the Grenadines (SVG) Fiona Fan, highlighted the long-standing impact of the bursary programme. She revealed that a total of EC$320,000 was allocated this year to assist students in their academic pursuits.
“Since the programme’s inception in 1998, 12,500 students have benefited from this initiative,” Ambassador Fan stated, as she underscored Taiwan’s continued commitment to education and youth empowerment in St Vincent and the Grenadines, adding that Taiwan is proud to provide such support. The ambassador identified such initiatives as the Youth In Service (YES) programme and its counterpart Support for Education and Training (SET) programme, as well as scholarships for study in Taiwan, all of which provide a way for Vincentian students to further their education and develop professionally.
“Over the past two decades, 321 students have studied in Taiwan on the Taiwan scholarship programmes earning degrees in agriculture, healthcare, culinary arts and technology.”
