US President Donald Trump said that the wars in the Middle East and Ukraine could end “at a similar time”.
“Which war will end first? I don’t know, maybe the time frame will be the same.”
“Ukraine … from a military point of view, they are defeated,” Trump told reporters after an hour and a half phone call with Russian President Vladimir Putin.
However, it is possible that Trump mixed up Iran and Ukraine, because right after this sentence he presented information about the American-Israeli war against Iran.
“You won’t hear about it from the fake news, but from a military point of view… The fleet… 159 ships – all of them are under water right now.”
“You think they’re doing well when they don’t have a navy, an air force, and anti-aircraft systems?” the US president added.
A week ago, Trump already said that the US military had sunk 159 Iranian ships, so it is clear from the context that the US president was referring to the military defeat of Iran.
Shortly after Trump’s press conference, Andrey Kovalenko, a senior officer in the Ukrainian military, spoke.
“Trump mixed up Ukraine and Iran when he talked about ‘159 sunken ships’ and defeat in the war. It is important to clarify this,” Kovalenko wrote on social media.
The American television network CNN also noted that Trump, speaking of the military defeat, most likely named the country incorrectly.
Yuri Ushakov, assistant to the Russian president, informed the public about the telephone conversation between Putin and Trump.
According to Ushakov, Trump told Putin that the deal was about settlement years of conflict in Ukraine near.
“Our president reaffirmed that the goals of the special military operation will be achieved in any case,” Putin’s associate reported.
Ushakov also said that Putin expressed his willingness to on May 9, the anniversary Victory Day over Germany in World War IIdeclared a ceasefire in the war against Ukraine.
“Trump praised the recent Easter truce. In this sense, Putin informed his American colleague about his readiness to declare a truce and to mark Victory Day,” Interfax quoted Ushakova as saying.
“Trump supported this initiative,” he added.
Putin condemned the recent attempted assassination of Trump and expressed his support, the TASS agency reported Ushakova’s words.
However, a little later, Trump told reporters at the White House that the idea for the truce came from him.
“I had a long conversation with President Putin. I proposed a short ceasefire and I think he can do it.”
“He can release something about it. Hasn’t he already released it?” the US president asked.
“I told him and… so many people are being killed there, it’s very stupid.”
last time, Russia and Ukraine agreed to a truce for the Orthodox Easter.
The ceasefire lasted from 16:00 on April 11 until the end of April 12, 2026.
However, both sides then accused each other of violating the truce.
‘Due to the terrorist threat from Ukraine, the parade on Red Square
The Kremlin announced that the traditional Victory Day military parade in Moscow on May 9 this year will be reduced in size due to the “terrorist threat” from Ukraine.
“All measures are being taken to minimize the danger,” said Dmitry Peskov, a spokesman for President Vladimir Putin.
At this year’s commemoration of the Soviet victory over Nazi Germany in World War II, there will be no military vehicles or cadets due to the “current operational situation,” Peskov added.
Ukraine has recently stepped up attacks deep into Russia, more than four years after the start of a full-scale Russian invasion.
Kiev says it is hitting legitimate military targets and accuses Moscow of attacking civilians in Ukraine.
“The Kyiv regime, which is losing on the battlefield every day, has launched full-scale terrorist activities,” Peskov told reporters on April 29.
“Therefore, in view of this terrorist threat, of course, all measures are being taken to minimize the danger,” he said, adding that the parade will still be held on Red Square.
In 2008, Putin revived the old Soviet practice of holding a military parade in Red Square to demonstrate Russia’s “growing defense capabilities.”
last year, more than 20 world leaders it was in Moscow to mark the 80th anniversary of the victory over Germany in 1945.
The latest Russian weapons were also presented at the parade.

‘Better end the war in Ukraine’: Trump to Putin
Ushakov also reported that during the conversation, Putin presented “a series of proposals aimed at resolving disagreements over Iran’s nuclear program.”
He gave no further details.
“He told me he would like to be involved in enrichment and he could help us get it,” Trump said, referring to Iran’s enriched uranium, which the U.S. and some Western countries consider part of Iran’s nuclear weapons program.
“I told him, ‘I would prefer you to be involved in ending the war with Ukraine.'”
Russia has previously expressed its readiness to accept Iranian enriched uranium on its territory.
However, according to Peskov, the US rejected Moscow’s offer.
