Cambodian Mine Action Centre (CMAC) is actively carrying out operations to clear cluster bombs and release land for the socio-economic use of local communities, including farmland such as cassava plantations that are approaching harvest time.
According to a Facebook post this morning, Heng Ratana, a Senior Minister and Director General of CMAC, stated that cluster bombs were fired by invading Thai forces targeting villages, farmland of local residents, and civilian infrastructure. He said the attacks were intended to kill civilians, devastate communities, and create long-term socio-economic hardships for people living in those areas.
The CMAC chief added that efforts are underway to jointly prevent dangers caused by explosive remnants of war and to clear contaminated land as quickly as possible so that it can be safely returned to the people.
These actions, he noted, align with the vision and leadership of Prime Minister Hun Manet, and the government.
