Victor Ponta, message for PSD: “I think you should ally with AUR, but I also think you should say what’s next”

Victor Ponta, message for PSD: “I think you should ally with AUR, but I also think you should say what’s next”

    Invited to
The “Truth” interviews, Victor Ponta criticized the strategy of the PSD, which “personified” its discontents in Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan, when the real problem of the party is that, after winning the elections, it became the “fourth wheel in the wagon”, in a coalition in which the USR’s influence increased significantly.

“PSD, the former main ruling party, will join forces with the far-right opposition”, notes the international press

Former Prime Minister Victor Ponta believes that the discontent within the PSD should not be directed exclusively against the Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan, but against the way the party handled its political position after the election.

Invited to the program Interviurile “Adevărul”, Victor Ponta pointed out the fact that the social democrats have reached a paradoxical situation: although they finished first in the elections, they ended up playing a marginal role in the current government and losing their relevance on the political scene.

“I don’t think that Bolojan, as a person, is the big problem”

According to the former prime minister, PSD’s concentrated attacks on Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan are wrong, because the problem is not a personal one, but one related to the political influence lost by PSD within the coalition, something that the social democrats should honestly recognize.

“I don’t think that Bolojan, as a person, is the big problem. The man with whom you cannot, sir, sit at the table… Well, you can sit at the table. I think that the PSD should have been fair and said: “Sir, we, the PSD, the number one party, have become the fourth wheel on the government wagon””. pointed out Ponta.

The former prime minister stated that, instead of “personifying” the political conflict, the PSD should have openly and honestly explained why it can no longer remain in the current government formula and what are the real political reasons behind a possible withdrawal.

    advertisement“); background-position: center center; background-repeat: no-repeat;”>

“He should have said directly: “We cannot remain in a government where the userists rule and constantly attack us””. he explained, referring to the strained relationship between PSD and USR.

No one knows what will happen after the motion

Victor Ponta argued that personal differences between political leaders should not block the functioning of the state and, in this sense, recalled the periods in which he led the Government despite the conflicts he had with former presidents Traian Băsescu and Klaus Iohannis.

In his opinion, Romania went through good years from an economic and political point of view, precisely because personal rivalries were not allowed to completely affect the act of governance.

At the same time, the former prime minister criticized the way the PSD is handling the current political crisis and said that it should not support a censure motion without clearly presenting what comes next.

He also believes that PSD should have assumed without hesitation the political direction it wants to follow, including regarding a possible collaboration with AUR.

“I understood that you are submitting a motion, that you are leaving the government. I was of the opinion that they should leave the government, that they had no reason to enter, but please, in the end I still get to my point. I think that you should ally with AUR. But I also think that you should say what comes next.” said the former prime minister.
