The Inter-American Commission on Human Rights (Cidh) granted precautionary measures in favor of Yorman Bladimir Acevedo Murillo, a Venezuelan citizen detained since January 13, 2026.
The resolution 22/2026, adopted on April 4responds to serious risks to his life, personal integrity and health, the IACHR indicated in a statement.
Yorman Bladimir Acevedo Murillo actively participated in political debates through digital platforms. There he expressed open criticism of the government of Nicolás Maduro, for which authorities detained him without clear public details about the specific charges.
Human rights organizations identify him as a political prisoner. Since his arrest, Acevedo Murillo remains without regular access to medical care, even though his relatives have warned that he suffers from depression, sleep disorders, anxiety, nervous disorders and hearing problems.
According to the request presented to the IACHR, Acevedo does not receive the prescribed medications or comprehensive health evaluations and his conditions of confinement include extortion, physical attacks by officials, insufficient food, shortage of drinking water and severe limitations on family visits.
The IACHR highlighted that these circumstances could seek to intimidate and silence their right to freedom of expression. The Venezuelan State did not present information that would refute the allegations.
The Commission asked the government for concrete measures: immediate protection of his fundamental rights, detention conditions in accordance with international standards, access to specialized medical care, adequate food and water, an end to violence and threats within the penitentiary center, fluid communication with family members and lawyers, and a guarantee so that he can exercise his political activity without harassment.
This case is added to the list of detainees for political reasons in Venezuela. Relatives and human rights defenders denounce systematic patterns of arbitrariness, irregular transfers and deterioration in the health of prisoners.
The IACHR stressed the urgency of actions that prevent irreparable damage. So far, there is no official response from the Venezuelan State regarding compliance with these measures.
