The press release further emphasizes that aware of the “importance” of the question of Sahara for the MoroccoTHE Canada takes note of the resolution 2797 of United Nations Security Council of October 31, 2025, from which it draws the consequences.
While affirming “the need to achieve a political settlement sustainable, just and mutually acceptable, in accordance with the principles of the Charter of the United Nations and relevant resolutions of the Security Council“, the press release from the Canadian ministry characterizes the autonomy plan proposed by the Morocco “as a serious and credible initiative aimed at achieving a just and lasting settlement to the conflict.”
This change in position of Canada intervenes upstream of a “official visit to Morocco” from Minister Anand “in the coming weeks”, which will be an opportunity “to deepen the dialogue on relations between the two countries and to intensify discussions on the Sahara”, concludes the press release.
