The President of the Maramureș County Council, Gabriel Zetea, announces that the bridge project over the Tisa from Sighetu Marmației enters the final stage of preparation for opening, after the completion of the technical reception and the acceleration of the works on the Ukrainian side, which concretely brings closer the realization of a new border connection between Romania and Ukraine.
“After the technical reception held the other day at the bridge over the Tisa, at Sighetu Marmației, I had an important meeting with the Ukrainian side and, in particular, with the military governor of the Transcarpathia region, Miroslav Bilețchi, to establish the final steps until the actual opening of the border point.
The concrete news: The works on the Ukrainian side, namely the access road and the customs area, are in full swing. The estimated deadline for completion is June 15, with an assumed margin of July 1. In the first stage, traffic on the Ukrainian side will be on one lane per direction. Pedestrians and small vehicles, up to 3.5 tons, will be able to circulate,” says Zetea.
The president of CJ Maramureș also reveals the costs for the construction of the new bridge.
“It’s an important, real step, because we’re talking about an investment of about 50 million euros, stretching over almost 1 kilometer, from DN18 to over the Tisza. We have a complete project with a roundabout, control areas, parking lots, modern buildings, scanners, staff spaces and, of course, the 264-meter-long bridge, designed to last 100 years.
It was not an easy road. We had delays, blockages, complicated procedures and a partnership that depended on decisions taken at a high level, including the Memorandum signed only in June 2024 between the Governments of Romania and Ukraine. But today we are here. In the end, Zetea declares.
He argues that the opening of the bridge is a historic moment, with real development opportunities for both countries.
