A notable number of Misrata personalities issued a strongly worded statement announcing their outright rejection of what they described as a “suspicious agreement” led by political actors under the auspices of US Advisor Massad Boulos.
The statement said these understandings pave the way for the dominance of “family rule” and would result in a loss of national sovereignty under foreign tutelage.
Signatories stressed that those involved in “power- and revenue-sharing deals” represent only themselves, while declaring their rejection of any future role for Khalifa Haftar or his sons in the political scene, describing them as “war criminals” whose “hands are stained with the blood of Libyans and who have tampered with the country’s resources and source of income.”
The statement also reaffirmed that the city’s municipal council and the forces of the February 17 Revolution are the sole representatives of Misrata, calling on the UN mission to adhere to the outcomes of the advisory committee issued in May 2025, which call for dismantling “bloated political bodies” and forming a constituent council to end the current political deadlock.
