God made everything beautiful in its time; furthermore it has placed the sense of the eternal in the hearts of men, without however allowing them to find the reason for what God does from beginning to end. (Ecclesiastes, 3.11) How much beauty around us and also within us, if we are ready to grasp it. Our struggle is to reacquire every day, in due time, the wonder in the face of the little things in life. But then Qoheleth raises the stakes, telling us that God has placed olam in our hearts. What is it about? Here are some possible translations: the mystery of time, the duration of times… the sense of the eternal.
