“Starting from the public positions and principles of the rule of law so far, we believe that it is of crucial importance to provide clear and complete answers to all open questions. In this context, the Cabinet of the President invites the Assembly of Montenegro to form an inquiry committee and conduct a parliamentary investigation in connection with this case,” they pointed out.
They say that it is particularly important to “determine what led to a change in the Government’s approach compared to the period when the arbitration procedure was initiated, and what are the reasons for the turn in strategy that resulted in the current settlement”.
“Citizens have the right to know on the basis of which assessments, legal and financial analyzes or possible political and other influences decisions were made that may have long-term and potentially harmful consequences for state interests,” they said.
They say that the President of the State, Jakov Milatović, expresses his full readiness to respond to the inquiry committee’s call and contribute to the clarification of all relevant facts.
“At the same time, we believe that it is of particular importance that the current prime minister also responds to the invitation of this committee, bearing in mind that both of them held ministerial functions at the time when the arbitration procedure was initiated, and that the public rightly expects clear and complete explanations,” Milatović’s cabinet pointed out.
They conclude that “an open and responsible dialogue before the institutions of the system is the only way to strengthen public trust and ensure that such processes are conducted transparently and in the best interest of the state and its citizens.”
