The president of USA, donald trump stated on Tuesday, April 7, 2026, that it had agreed to suspend the “bombings and attacks against Iran” for two weeks.
“I agree to suspend the bombing and attack against Iran for a period of two weeks,” Trump posted on social media just over an hour before his deadline expired, after conversations with Pakistani mediators.
Trump had promised to launch a devastating attack against Iran, but after announcing that he was postponing the attack, he said he was willing to call a ceasefire in the war if Tehran completely reopens the vital Strait of Hormuz.
He commented that the United States has “made a lot of progress” in negotiations with Iran for a “long-term peace” agreement.
His decision, he said, is based on conversations held with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Field Marshal Asim Munir of Pakistan.
“This will be a bilateral ceasefire! The reason for proceeding in this way is that we have already met and exceeded all military objectives, and we are at a very advanced stage towards a definitive agreement concerning a long-term peace with Iran, as well as peace in the Middle East,” adds the text in Truth Social.
Iranian proposal
At the same time, he reported that Iran has sent the United States a proposal of 10 “viable” points.
This latest counteroffer from Tehran, transmitted through Pakistan, among the 10 points includes the end of hostilities in the region, a protocol for safe passage through the Strait of Hormuz – which Iran maintains partially closed after the start of the war – and the lifting of sanctions.
“An agreement has been reached between the United States and Iran regarding almost all past points of disagreement; however, a period of two weeks will allow this agreement to be finalized and consummated,” said Trump, who considered that this “enduring problem” between Washington and Tehran “is close to resolution.”
Iran’s National Security Council claimed to have proposed a ten-point plan to the United States that stipulates a “security protocol” for the passage through the Strait of Hormuz, which guarantees Iranian “control” of this key point.
