16 new routes will be established in Tashkent by purchasing 240 additional buses. This is stated in the decision of the Standing Committee of the Tashkent City Council of People’s Deputies on construction, communal, water management, ecology, industry and transport issues.
As noteda total of 169 routes operate in the public transport system of Tashkent city, and 1927 buses are attached to these routes. An average of 23,000 trips are made by these vehicles during the day.
As a result of the analysis, it was determined that there are a number of systemic problems in the public transport system of Tashkent city. In particular, the waiting time for buses increases to 35-40 minutes during peak traffic times. This causes excessive time consumption for residents, difficulties in getting to work and study places on time, as well as a decrease in trust in public transport. The increase in traffic intervals in some directions is increasing inconvenience for passengers.
In order to eliminate existing problems, the following measures are planned:
Expansion of traffic by purchasing 240 additional buses;
Establishing 16 new routes, increasing the number of daily trips by an additional 2,000;
Establishing 16.2 km of BRT lanes and 56 km of dedicated bus lanes, installing more than 600 cameras to strengthen control on dedicated lanes;
reconstruction of 1116 stations and construction of 70 new stations as part of station infrastructure modernization;
Establishing real-time traffic control by installing 545 “smart” traffic lights.
